Editorial policy

EnergyPlans.com.au publishes electricity and gas comparison content, pricing data, and guides for Australian households. This policy explains the standards we follow when producing and maintaining that content.

    Our editorial principles

    • Accuracy. We base pricing estimates and comparisons on published benchmarks, regulatory data, and retailer disclosures. We do not fabricate specific plan prices.
    • Independence. Our editorial content, reports, and data analysis are produced independently. Commercial relationships do not influence the inclusion or ranking of data in our reports.
    • Transparency. We disclose how we make money, what data sources we use, and what limitations apply to our comparisons. See our how we make money and data sources pages.
    • Usefulness. Content should help the reader make a more informed decision about their energy plan. We avoid filler content that does not serve this purpose.
    • Australian English. All content is written in Australian English using Australian energy market terminology.

    Content types

    Programmatic comparison pages

Our suburb, postcode, state, and provider pages are generated using structured data from distributor zone benchmarks and state-level pricing information. These pages are reviewed regularly and updated when new benchmark data becomes available. The content uses natural variation across pages to avoid repetition.

    Editorial guides and reports

Our guides and state reports are written and reviewed by our editorial team. They draw on publicly available regulatory data, retailer disclosures, and our own analysis. We aim to update these at least annually or following significant market changes.

    Blog articles

Blog posts cover energy news, pricing changes, and practical advice. These are date-stamped and represent the information available at the time of publication. We update older posts when material changes occur.

    Review process

We review our pricing data and benchmark figures when new regulatory determinations are published (such as the annual AER Default Market Offer update). Programmatic pages are regenerated with updated figures as part of this process.

If you notice an error or outdated figure, please let us know through our corrections process.

    Commercial content separation

Links to our comparison partner are clearly labelled. When you click a "Compare Plans" button or similar call to action, you are being directed to a commercial comparison service. Our editorial content (reports, guides, pricing analysis, suburb data) is produced separately and is not influenced by which plans are available through our comparison partner.
