AGL connection fee when you move house

AGL sells the plan. The poles and wires belong to the distributor for your new address, and you do not choose that company. When you move, AGL asks the distributor to connect the property, and any charge the distributor bills to AGL is passed through on your AGL bill.

There is no single national AGL connection fee. AGL says a service-order fee can apply for connecting when you move in, and that the amount depends on the network and the work. Until we have copied the figure from AGL's current fee schedule for each network, the amount on this page stays marked as being verified.

AGL sells residential electricity in NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and the ACT. See AGL plans.

    Compare before you connect

Connecting with AGL means you start on an AGL plan. Compare what is available at the new address first, then book the connection. It is free, and the move-in is arranged in the same step.

    How to connect with AGL

    1. 1

Have the full street address, postcode and move-in date of the new place.

    2. 2

Compare the plan before you book the connection. The retailer who connects you is the retailer who bills you.

    3. 3

Give AGL at least one business day's notice if you want connection on move-in day, and leave the meter accessible with the main switch off.

    4. 4

Tell your old retailer your move-out date so the old address is not left in your name. If anyone at the new home uses life support equipment, tell AGL before you move.

    AGL connection fee

AGL's fees page says a fee may apply for connecting when you move in, including reconnection, and that distributor or meter-coordinator charges are passed through. Remote connections are charged at the amount in AGL's fee schedules. AGL does not publish one dollar figure that covers every address.

How long AGL says it takes

On its moving-house page, AGL says that with one business day's notice, clear and safe meter access, and the site safety requirements met, it will connect electricity on the day you move in. That is AGL's published notice period, not a guarantee from the distributor, and it does not apply to a new build that still needs a meter.
