EnergyAustralia moving house: electricity connection
EnergyAustralia will book the disconnection at the old address and the connection at the new one together if you are already a customer. A new customer still sets up the new address with EnergyAustralia, and calls the old retailer to close the previous account.
The reconnection fee is a distributor charge. EnergyAustralia's help pages say the distributor may charge it when you move in, and they point you to a fees page that varies by network. There is no single EnergyAustralia connection fee for every address.
EnergyAustralia sells residential electricity in NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and the ACT. See EnergyAustralia plans.
Compare before you connect
Connecting with EnergyAustralia means you start on an EnergyAustralia plan. Compare what is available at the new address first, then book the connection. It is free, and the move-in is arranged in the same step.

- 1
If you are an existing EnergyAustralia customer, book the move so the old address is closed and the new one is opened together.
- 2
If you are new to EnergyAustralia, set up the new address with them and contact your current retailer with the move-out date.
- 3
Have the new address, the connection date, a contact number, and identification. EnergyAustralia lists a passport, driver licence or Medicare number.
- 4
Call rather than use the form if anyone at the property is on life support, or if the property has solar.
EnergyAustralia connection fee
EnergyAustralia says the distributor may charge a reconnection fee when you move in and connect electricity, or for a meter read where that applies. The fee depends on the network. The dollar amount on this page is being verified against EnergyAustralia's fees page for each distributor.

How long EnergyAustralia says it takes
EnergyAustralia's connection page says a standard move normally takes up to three business days, and that a new meter (for example a new home) takes longer. Their help page also says to contact them at least two business days ahead, and that a next-business-day move is often possible if you call before 1pm. Life support and solar need a phone call rather than the online form.
