Connecting with Alinta Energy when you move house
Alinta Energy sells plans in the eastern states and in Western Australia, and the move-in path is not the same in both. In NSW, VIC, south-east Queensland and SA you can choose Alinta or another retailer for the new address. In the Perth network Synergy is the main residential retailer, and in regional WA Horizon Power is the government provider, so Alinta is not an option at every WA address.
Alinta says the distributor, not Alinta, may charge a move-in or move-out fee, and that the charge appears on the bill. Alinta's fees page is the place that lists the published amounts, and they differ by network.

Compare before you connect
Connecting with Alinta Energy means you start on an Alinta Energy plan. Compare what is available at the new address first, then book the connection. It is free, and the move-in is arranged in the same step.

- 1
Check the new address is somewhere Alinta actually sells residential electricity. WA outside the areas Alinta serves needs the local provider.
- 2
Compare plans before you book. Connecting with Alinta means the Alinta plan is the one you start on.
- 3
Book online with the new address and the move-in date, and give at least one full business day's notice.
- 4
If you are only moving out and not connecting a new Alinta account, Alinta says to speak to them and to allow three business days.
Alinta Energy connection fee
Alinta's moving-home page says the distributor may charge a move-in or move-out fee and that it appears on the energy bill. Alinta points to its fees and charges page for the amounts. Those amounts differ by network and by the type of work. The dollar figure on this page is being verified.

How long Alinta Energy says it takes
Alinta says energy can be connected for the day you move in if you give at least one full business day's notice. A move-out with no new connection needs three business days' notice, and Alinta says a move-out cannot be completed on a weekend or a public holiday. A new build is a new connection, not this move-in path, and is arranged separately.

No. A new home that has never had a meter is a new connection. Alinta has a separate new-connections path for electricity and gas, and it is slower than turning on an existing meter.
