Red Energy new connections when you move

If you are already with Red Energy, a move is booked in My Account or the Red Energy app: connect the new address and, if you need to, disconnect the old one on the same form. A new customer joins and nominates the move-in date as part of the sign-up.

Red publishes additional-service charge schedules by state, and those schedules are where move-in and new-connection amounts live. They change by network and by date. This page links the schedules and does not repeat a figure until that figure is checked against the current PDF.

Red Energy sells residential electricity in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA. See Red Energy plans.

    Compare before you connect

Connecting with Red Energy means you start on a Red Energy plan. Compare what is available at the new address first, then book the connection. It is free, and the move-in is arranged in the same step.

How to connect with Red Energy

    1. 1

Existing customers: open My Account or the app, choose Move home, and say whether the old service needs to be disconnected.

    2. 2

New customers: compare the plan first, then sign up with the new address and move-in date.

    3. 3

Leave at least one business day. For a same-day attempt, call before 12pm Monday to Saturday. Red Energy says urgent fees may apply.

    4. 4

If the old retailer is not Red Energy, that retailer still has to close the old account. Red cannot disconnect an account it does not hold.

    Red Energy connection fee

Red Energy publishes move-in and new-connection charges in state additional-service PDFs (NSW, Victoria and South Australia each have their own, with their own effective date). The amount depends on the network and on whether the job is a move-in reconnection or a new meter. The dollar figure on this page is being verified against the current PDF for each state.

How long Red Energy says it takes

Red Energy says to give at least one business day's notice. If you cannot, they say to call 131 806 before 12pm, Monday to Saturday, and they will try to arrange a same-day connection. They say fees may apply for an urgent connection. A disconnection cannot be booked for a weekend or public holiday.

    • Does Red Energy charge a connection fee?

Red publishes the charges in its additional-service schedules, and they differ by state and network. We link those schedules and mark the dollar amount as being verified until it is checked against the current PDF.
