What does Energex do?

Energex is responsible for maintaining and operating the electricity distribution infrastructure — including the poles, wires, transformers, and meters — that delivers electricity to homes and businesses in its service area. As a distributor, Energex does not sell electricity plans or set energy prices for consumers.

Your electricity retailer (the company you pay your bills to) purchases electricity from the wholesale market and transmits it through the distribution network managed by Energex. The distribution charge — sometimes called the network charge — forms part of your electricity bill and covers the cost of maintaining this infrastructure.

How switching retailers works

Switching electricity retailers in the Energex network area is straightforward. Your distributor stays the same — only the company you pay your bill to changes. Supply is not interrupted during the switch.
